Michael Doherty graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 2010 and went on to earn his graduate degree at Southern Polytechnic State University, where he worked on drones and brain–computer interfaces. He began his career developing drone technology at Brain Corp and later expanded into drone and AR/VR innovation with a couple of San Diego startups. After leading innovation projects at Stanley Black & Decker—including an automated excavator—he joined The Home Depot, where he now works as a Staff Software Engineer in the OrangeWorks innovation lab. His work spans applied innovation across shipping, computer vision, large language models, user and customer experience, and robotics. He also teaches internal innovation classes at The Home Depot.
